Installation notes

Yes — the K24A2 engine and 6-speed transmission from a 2004-2008 TSX (CL9) fits a 1996-2000 Civic (EK) with an EG or DC2 front subframe, steering rack and lower control arms, a K-series mount kit made for the TSX transmission, a model-year-specific conversion harness and swap axles. Hasport offers EKK2, EKK4, EKK5 and EKKAWD versions of its EK kit depending on the transmission used, with EKK4 covering the TSX gearbox, and says the kit only works with the EG/DC2 subframe. Innovative's EK K kit fits K-series engines but explicitly not the TSX transmission. Hybrid Racing notes the 96-98 and 99-00 EK need different conversion harnesses.

Required modifications

Subframe: Hasport says its EKK kit only works with an EG Civic or DC2 Integra front subframe and also requires the EG/DC2 steering rack and lower control arms. Engine mounts: Hasport EKK4 is the version of the EKK kit for the 03-07 Accord and 04-08 TSX manual transmission. Innovative states its 96-00 Civic K kit (90050) will not work with the TSX transmission, so with Innovative mounts the K24A2 must be paired with a different gearbox such as an RSX/Civic Si unit. Wiring: K-swap engine harness plus a conversion harness that matches 1996-1998 or 1999-2000 EK chassis wiring. Also axles for the chosen transmission, shifter cables, cooling, fuel and exhaust.

Caution

Important caveats

  • The Innovative 96-00 Civic K-series kit does not work with the TSX transmission; use the Hasport EKK4 version or a different gearbox.
  • 1996-1998 and 1999-2000 EK Civics need different K-swap conversion harnesses.
  • Hasport's EKK kit only works with an EG Civic or DC2 Integra front subframe, steering rack and lower control arms; the stock EK subframe is not used.
  • The K24 block is taller than the K20, which reduces oil-pan ground clearance.
