The swap replaces the 1.0-litre ECA hybrid three-cylinder and IMA system entirely. The mounts set engine position; everything else is custom work.

Swap mounts: Innovative Mounts conversion kits for the ZE1 — 90751 (K20 into a factory-manual Insight), 90752 (K20, auto-to-manual), 90753 (K24 into a factory-manual Insight; requires a K20 manual transmission) and 90754 (K24, auto-to-manual; also requires a K20 manual transmission). Kits reuse factory OEM hardware. Also needed: removal of the ECA hybrid engine and IMA system, K-series harness and ECU solution, axles, shifter cables to suit the K transmission, cooling, intake and exhaust, and brake/suspension upgrades for the added weight and power.

  • Innovative states the K24 kits only work with a K20 manual transmission.
  • The K20 manual kit (90751) does not work for K24 swaps or for cars that were originally automatic.
  • The ZE1 is a very light aluminium chassis built for a small hybrid engine, so consider brake, suspension and cooling upgrades alongside the swap.
