Installation notes

Yes — the 10.3-inch front brakes from a 1990–1991 Honda Civic EX (EF) fit a 1988–1991 Honda Civic or CRX by swapping in the EX front knuckles, calipers and rotors, with 14-inch wheels. The write-up, reprinted on Civicwagon from CRX Resource, says the 1990–91 Civic EX was the only EF fitted with 10.3-inch front rotors, adding nearly an inch of rotor diameter. It recommends pairing them with the EX 15/16-inch master cylinder and booster, and HF CRX and base Civic owners also need DX/EX/Si axles. A separate Civicwagon thread lists which proportioning valve suits each front/rear brake combination and notes that DA Integra knuckles can also be used but are designed for a slightly wider chassis.
Caution

Important caveats

  • 13-inch wheels will not clear the 10.3-inch brakes; the write-up says 14-inch wheels are needed and stock CRX 14-inch wheels may work.
  • Use the matching proportioning valve (1725, 2040, 3540 and 4040 differ by model): 3540 is listed for 10.3-inch fronts with rear drums and 4040 for 10.3-inch fronts with rear discs. The wrong valve can upset front/rear brake balance.
  • HF CRX and base Civic cars also need DX/EX/Si front axles, according to the write-up's parts list.
  • One Civicwagon reply says the booster does not have to change, while the write-up recommends the EX booster with the EX master cylinder.
  • DA Integra knuckles are an alternative but are designed for a slightly wider chassis.
  • No OEM part numbers were confirmed for this entry.
