1 Source a compatible flip key and blade
Buy an aftermarket flip-key case that matches your Civic key. Note that the metal blade can be purchased on its own and swapped into the case by driving out a single retaining pin, so a botched cut does not mean replacing the whole assembly. Keep a spare blade in reserve, since key cutting is the first place the conversion tends to go wrong.
2 Have the new blade cut correctly
Take the flip-key blade to a competent auto locksmith or laser key-cutting service; poor-quality cutting is a common cause of failure. Insist that the central groove running down the blade is machined deeply enough, as an under-cut groove is the usual reason a freshly cut key will turn nothing. 3 Understand what you are transplanting

4 Free the transponder from the original board

5 Wire and position the transponder in the flip case
Solder a short length of the thinnest, most flexible wire you have to each transponder connection point, then route the leads through the flip-key housing. Mount the transponder as far forward as possible, near where the blade enters the barrel; if it sits too far back the immobiliser cannot pick it up and the car will not start. Keep both connections intact and the solder joints clean and secure.
6 Test the conversion and troubleshoot
Fit the blade, close the case, and try to start the car. If you get the green key warning and no start, suspect a cold or broken joint or a transponder mounted too far from the barrel: reflow the solder, try the second connection pad, and reposition the antenna closer to the front. If problems persist, have a locksmith test whether the key still emits a signal, which confirms whether the board survived the transplant.
