Installation notes

Yes — the J32A2 V6 from a 2001-2003 Acura CL Type-S (YA4) fits a 1992-1995 Honda Civic (EG) with a dedicated J-swap mount kit (Hasport EGJ1/EGJ2 or Innovative Mounts 80150/80151), J-swap axles and an alternator relocation solution. Both Hasport and Innovative Mounts sell complete EG J-series mount kits, so the engine placement is solved; the rest of the swap is fabrication and wiring. Innovative describes its kit as positioning the J32 with no axle bind, and Hybrid Racing, which sells the kit, says the version with the alternator relocator is the one most swaps need because of accessory clearance. The J-series is much taller and wider than a B- or K-series, so hood clearance, radiator placement and oil pan protection (Hasport sells J-series skid plates) all need planning.

Required modifications

Swap mount kit: Hasport EGJ1 or EGJ2 (EGJ2 is the version Hasport says lets the tall J-series sit under the hood), or Innovative Mounts 80150 (includes alternator relocator bracket) / 80151 (no relocator). Hasport states some engine bay modification is needed before its kit bolts in. Axles: J-swap-specific axles such as Hasport HP-EGJ1AX / HP-EGJ2AX, which are built around the J-series automatic intermediate shaft (Hasport asks to be contacted if a manual intermediate shaft is used). Alternator/accessory clearance: Innovative relocator bracket, or Hasport DJ-SKID, which mounts a 92-00 Civic D-series alternator on a skid plate below the headlamp bucket. Also plan for a manual J-series transmission, a modified engine harness and ECU solution, custom cooling hoses and radiator routing, a custom exhaust, and A/C either deleted or re-plumbed.

Caution

Important caveats

  • A J-swap into an EG is a bigger project than a K-swap: Hybrid Racing (an Innovative Mounts reseller) notes that axles, cooling, wiring, exhaust and the transmission choice all need answers beyond the mounts.
  • Hasport only describes the EGJ2 kit as allowing the J-series to sit under the stock hood; confirm hood clearance with Hasport before choosing EGJ1.
  • Hasport's EG J-swap axles are designed for the J-series automatic intermediate shaft; a manual-transmission intermediate shaft needs a different axle spec from Hasport.
  • The innovative kit pages list the J32; J35/J37 engines are larger-displacement variants and may need extra checking for fitment and accessories.
  • Vendor pages do not name a specific ECU or harness solution; budget for a custom or modified engine harness and a tuning plan.
