Installation notes

Yes — the front calipers and 23T brackets from a 1997-2001 Acura Integra Type R (DC2) fit a 1996-2000 Honda Civic (EK) that has the small DX/LX knuckles, if you machine the brackets and run 10.3-inch rotors. On Civicwagon, BrakeExpert explains that DX knuckles put the caliper-bracket tabs closer to the hub center. EX calipers over EX rotors therefore won't fit, but the Type R caliper and bracket sit farther out. He says the advantage is that the Type R caliper takes a bigger pad while you keep a 10.3-inch rotor and the original knuckle. Another Civicwagon post by evol911 gives the same 3.2 mm bracket machining on a DX-type knuckle.

Required modifications

From the write-up on a 1996 Civic LX sedan with the stock DX knuckles: Integra Type R calipers on 23T caliper brackets (from a DC2 Integra Type R or a single-piston 1991-1995 Legend), with 10.3-inch Civic EX rotors. The throat of each 23T bracket was ground down by 0.127 in (3.2 mm) so it clears the rotor. The author says a 3.2 mm spacer between hub and rotor is an alternative to grinding, but he chose to grind the bracket because he felt it was safer. About 1 mm (maybe more) was ground off the bottom of the Type R pad backing plates to clear the rotor hat. A second Civicwagon post gives the same 3.2 mm (0.127 in) bracket machining on a DX-type knuckle (RT4WD wagon) with a 10.3-inch Integra LS rotor.

Caution

Important caveats

  • Requires machine work on the caliper brackets and grinding of the pad backing plates; this is not a bolt-on.
  • The simpler route on most EKs is to swap to EX/Si knuckles and use EX or Integra brakes instead.
  • Check wheel clearance; the write-ups don't give a minimum wheel size.
  • Brake bias changes with a larger front setup; check the proportioning valve and master cylinder match your rear brakes.
  • No OEM part numbers were confirmed for this entry.
