J32A2 3.2L V6 engine and 6-speed (J-swap)
into Civic del Sol (from CL Type-S)
Yes: the J32A2 3.2L V6 engine and 6-speed (J-swap) from the CL Type-S (2003) fits the Civic del Sol (1993-1997) — difficult difficulty, modifications required.
Installation notes
Required modifications
Engine mounts: Hasport EGJ1 or the dual-height EGJ2 (J-series into 92-95 Civic, 94-97 del Sol and 94-01 Integra); Hasport says engine bay modifications are needed first and that some J-series engines and transmissions may need modification. EGJ2 is designed to fit the tall J-series under the hood. Innovative Mounts lists its EG/DC J-series V6 conversion kit (J32, manual) in its del Sol category, with or without an alternator relocator bracket. Also needs a J-swap shifter setup, wiring/ECU and cooling for the V6.
Important caveats
- Hasport says some J-series engines and transmissions may need modification to work with these kits.
- Hasport lists the kits for the 94-97 del Sol, while Innovative's del Sol collection is labelled 93-97. Check with the vendor for a 1993 car.
- Alternator clearance is a known problem in the EG/DC bay; Innovative sells the kit with or without a relocator bracket.
- A V6 in a del Sol adds a lot of front weight; plan brakes, cooling and suspension accordingly.
- The 6-speed manual was only offered in the 2003 CL Type-S; 2001–2002 CL Type-S cars have the same J32A2 engine but an automatic. Axle part numbers for this swap were not confirmed in the listed sources.
