Installation notes

Yes — the 5-lug front knuckles and hubs from a 2002–2004 Acura RSX Type-S (DC5) fit a 2002–2005 Honda Civic Si (EP3) when you also fit RSX Type-S front axles and swap in RSX rear hubs. MotoIQ's Project EP3 converted a Civic Si this way to get 5x114.3 wheels. MotoIQ says a base RSX front hub of the same years is the simple direct bolt-on choice. They picked Type-S parts because the knuckle and wheel bearing are larger and stiffer, which suits big tires, track loads and the fixed-piston brakes they planned. The Type-S hub has a larger axle spline, so they switched to RSX Type-S axles. MotoIQ also fitted RSX Type-S tie rod ends, which are larger with bigger studs; their RSX-pattern coilovers needed the larger taper. A 2004 Honda-Tech thread confirms owners doing the same conversion with Type-S hubs, axles, knuckles, sensors and brakes.

Required modifications

Use 2002–2004 RSX Type-S front knuckles with hubs and bearings, plus the RSX Type-S tie rod ends and related hardware. The Type-S hub has a larger axle spline, so the front axles must be changed to RSX Type-S axles as well. MotoIQ's project car used Type-S axles from Raxles. At the rear, base RSX and RSX Type-S rear hubs are the same part, and MotoIQ says either bolts into the EP3. You also need 5-lug rotors: base RSX rotors are the simple bolt-on choice. One Honda-Tech owner listed the parts they changed as hubs, Type-S axles, Type-S wheel speed sensors, knuckles, rotors, Type-S brake lines, calipers and pads. Get a wheel alignment afterwards.

Caution

Important caveats

  • Only use 2002–2004 RSX Type-S knuckles. MotoIQ says the 2005–2006 Type-S knuckle has a larger ball-joint stud that won't fit the EP3 lower control arm unless you change the arms too.
  • The RSX Type-S hub spline is larger than the Civic axle spline, so the stock EP3 axles won't fit Type-S hubs. Plan on RSX Type-S axles.
  • Owners in the Honda-Tech thread said the front axles and ball joints were the hardest part, and that alignment needs attention when parts come from a crashed donor car.
  • You will need 5x114.3 wheels. MotoIQ chose the conversion to get access to 5x114.3 wheels; the 7th-gen Civic parts-list guides give +45 mm as the stock RSX offset.
  • No OEM part numbers were confirmed for this entry.
