Yes — an AP1 or AP2 S2000 gauge cluster can be fitted to a 1996–2000 Civic (EK), but it needs custom wiring and the K-Tuned S2K dash converter to make the speedometer, temperature and fuel gauges read correctly. K-Tuned lists the converter for AP1 and AP2 cluster swaps into EF, EG and EK Civics and DC2 Integras. K-Tuned's instructions cover only the converter connections and say the rest of the cluster wiring must be worked out from diagrams for your car. Honda-Tech members call it a costly swap that needs fabrication.

Required modifications

The cluster must be wired into the EK dash harness using wiring diagrams for both cars, and it needs a custom mount in the EK dash. The K-Tuned All-In-One S2K Dash Converter (KTD-S2K-CON) sits behind the cluster and converts the speed signal (gear-type or magnetic to digital), coolant temperature and fuel level. On an AP1 cluster it connects only to plugs B (12-pin) and C (20-pin): 12V ignition at B4 and ground at B8. Three wires are cut and routed through the converter: the blue/white speed wire at C3, the yellow/green temperature wire at C7 and the yellow/black fuel wire at C8. It is programmed over a USB adapter, and the fuel gauge is set with a brass dial on the unit.

Important caveats

  • K-Tuned does not supply the full dash wiring for any car; you must wire the cluster yourself from diagrams.
  • Buy the S2000 cluster with its plugs; K-Tuned says this greatly simplifies the install.
  • The cluster needs custom mounting in the EK dash.
  • The converter is an extra cost on top of the cluster (one NZ retailer lists it at about NZ$634).
  • Fuel level is set manually with the converter's dial to match the EK's tank sender.
