Installation notes

Yes — the B18C1 engine and hydraulic transmission from a 1994-2001 Integra GS-R (DC2) fits a 1988-1991 Civic (EF) with an EF B-series hydro mount kit, a clutch solution for the cable-clutch chassis, an adapter harness and B-series axles. Hasport sells EFB2 for B-series engines with the hydraulic transmission and notes the clutch conversion is sold separately. Innovative lists a kit for the ED/EF chassis converting from cable to hydraulic transmission with B-series engines. The same mount kits cover the 1988-1991 CRX, which shares the EF platform.

Required modifications

Engine mounts: an EF B-series kit for the hydraulic transmission (Hasport EFB2, or Innovative 49150). Clutch: the EF has a cable clutch and the GS-R gearbox is hydraulic. Hasport offers two routes: its EFBHCL lever assembly, a complete mechanical conversion that lets the EF clutch cable operate the hydraulic transmission, or its Clutch Master Adapter (CMA), which needs a clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder and line added. Innovative sells 49150 with or without a cable-to-hydraulic actuator. Innovative notes some B18 engines have a timing-belt post mount that will not fit its kit. Wiring: an EF B-swap adapter harness between the B-series engine harness and the EF chassis wiring (Rywire's version must match the EF's trim and year). Axles and shift linkage must suit the B-series hydraulic transmission.

Caution

Important caveats

  • The EF chassis uses a cable clutch, so a hydraulic B-series transmission needs either the Hasport lever assembly or a cable-to-hydraulic actuator; plan this before buying mounts.
  • Innovative says some B18 engines have a timing-side post mount that will not fit its kit and the correct post mount must be used.
  • Innovative separates its kits for D-series cars converting to B-series and for right-hand-drive or factory B-series cars; order the one that matches your chassis.
  • Rywire's EF adapter harness plugs between the B-series engine harness and the factory EF wiring; it is not a full engine harness.
