Acura RDX (1G) Center Console Top Cover Removal and Cup Holder Replacement
Introduction
This guide covers lifting off the top cover of the center console on the first-generation Acura RDX (2007-2012) and, if needed, swapping out the cup holder that mounts underneath it. Removing this cover exposes the console interior, which is the starting point for jobs such as servicing the console courtesy light and its wiring. The cover is retained entirely by concealed plastic clips, so the whole job is done by hand with a couple of trim tools once the shift assembly is out of the way. Because SRS airbag wiring and other circuits run through the console, disconnect the battery before you begin. Step-by-Step Instructions
1 Remove the shift assembly and disconnect the battery
The console top cover cannot come off until the shift knob and shift boot assembly are already removed, so complete that job first. Live wiring, including SRS airbag circuits, is routed through the console; to avoid accidental shorts or airbag deployment, loosen the negative terminal with a 10 mm wrench and lift the cable off the battery post before touching anything inside the console.
2 Free the driver-side chrome trim strip
Locate the silver trim strip running along the driver side of the console. Slip a plastic pry tool under it at the very back and ease it upward. Continue releasing it toward the front. As each clip pops, tip the rear of the strip up and draw the forward clips out toward the back of the car rather than straight up. Set the strip aside.
3 Free the passenger-side chrome trim strip
Repeat the same release on the silver trim strip along the passenger side of the console, again beginning at the rear and working forward, lifting the back edge and sliding the front clips rearward. With both strips off you can see how their clips seat into the console body, which helps when it is time to reinstall them.
4 Open the lid and release the driver-side cover clips
Raise the console armrest lid to give yourself room to work. Along the driver side of the top cover, gently pry to pop the retaining clips loose. Pay attention to the clip tucked at the rear beneath the raised lid, which is easy to miss and easy to break if you pull before it has released.
5 Release the passenger-side cover clips
Do the same along the passenger side of the top cover, working the clips free with a plastic tool. As on the driver side, there is a rear clip hidden under the lid opening; make sure it disengages before applying any lifting force to that corner.
6 Lift the top cover off the console
With all the clips released, the cover is still held snugly where it meets the lower front panel that carries the seat-heater controls and the power outlet. Rock and coax the cover free of that panel, then lift the whole top cover clear of the console.
7 Replace the cup holder (optional)
If your goal is to renew the cup holder, turn the removed top cover over. The cup holder is fastened to the underside and comes off once its screws are backed out. Fit the replacement unit in the same orientation and secure it before reinstalling the cover.
8 Reassemble in reverse order
Reinstall the top cover by lining it up with the front panel and pressing the clips home, working the concealed rear clips under the open lid first. Refit both silver trim strips, then reinstall the shift boot and knob. Finally, reconnect the negative battery cable and tighten the terminal.

- 💡 Work each trim strip and the cover from the rear toward the front; the rearmost clips sit under the lid opening and are the ones most often overlooked.
