The K24 bottom end (crank, rods, pistons) is retained, while the head, cam caps, VTC actuator, timing chain, tensioner, slide rails, oil pump, oil pan, oil cooler, windage tray, knock sensor, and their fasteners transfer from the K20A2. The K20A2 water pump, oil cooler, and intake also carry over. Because the hybrid combination changes how the timing indexes, the marks will not line up on their own; set the crank to TDC and align them by hand. On the dyno the build has shown about 185 whp with roughly 30 lb-ft more torque across the band, forming a good base for boost (300+ whp capable). A CR-V donor is the cheap, plentiful choice; a TSX block adds higher compression, stronger rods, and factory oil squirters.
The K24 block must be machined to accept the K20A2 oil cooler: remove the oil filter, back out the protruding threaded pipe with vice grips so the block matches the K20A2 threads, open up the oil-cooler passage (machine shop preferred, or a careful Dremel job), then remove the hex block plug above the filter opening and blow out all metal debris before assembly. A CR-V block also has bosses that can be drilled and tapped for piston oil squirters carried over from the K20A2 (a TSX block already has them). Assembly uses a new Cometic head gasket, Hondabond on the pan, water pump, and Hondata intake gasket, and a K-Pro Type S ECU on the stock Type S harness.

Important Caveats

  • CR-V rods are weaker than TSX rods; keep the redline near 7500 RPM unless the bottom end is built.
  • The longer-stroke K24 moves the pistons faster than the RSX Type S does at 8600 RPM, so its safe rev ceiling is lower.
  • Timing marks will not align after the swap; set the crank to TDC and align them manually.
  • Blow all machining debris out of the block before assembly or the bearings will be destroyed.
  • Doing the labor yourself avoids roughly $2500 in shop labor, before parts and machine work.
