H22A1 engine and manual transmission
into Civic EK (from Prelude VTEC)
Yes: the H22A1 engine and manual transmission from the Prelude VTEC (1993-1996) fits the Civic EK (1996-2000) — difficult difficulty, modifications required.
Installation notes
Required modifications
Engine mounts: Hasport EKH3 (works with 93-97 H-series engines; some later H/F DOHC engines need the 93-97 Prelude H-series block bracket) or Innovative 20050/B20050 for EJ/EK with H22 and a manual transmission. Innovative requires the 92-96 Prelude rear T-bracket. Axles: swap-length axles are required; Hybrid Racing notes stock Prelude axles do not bolt up and Civic axles are too short (Hasport's chromoly EGH2AX axles fit only its older EGH2/EKH2 kits; the EKH3 needs different axles). Also wiring/ECU, shift linkage, radiator and hoses, fuel and exhaust.
Important caveats
- Innovative states the EK needs the 92-96 Prelude rear T-bracket to complete the swap.
- Hasport notes some later H- and F-series DOHC engines need the 93-97 Prelude H-series block bracket to use EKH3.
- Stock Prelude and Civic axles do not fit; H-swap axles of the correct length are required.
- Hasport's chromoly H-swap axles (EGH2AX) are only for its older EGH2/EKH2 kits; Hybrid Racing says the EGH3/EKH3 kits position the transmission differently and need different axles.
