Safety Warnings

Step-by-Step Instructions
1 Make an accurate template of the cargo deck
Begin by capturing the exact outline the panel has to fill. If your factory cover still exists, trace its perimeter directly onto template stock for a perfect starting shape. If it is gone, measure the shelf opening carefully and lay out the pattern by hand, checking every corner and angle rather than eyeballing it. The original writeup worked in centimeters, so keep your dimensions consistent. Accuracy here decides how well the finished deck drops in, so re-check the awkward angled edges before committing.
2 Transfer the pattern to MDF and rough-cut with a jigsaw
Lay the template on the 3/4" MDF sheet, mark around it, and cut the blank with a jigsaw. Leave roughly one to two centimeters of extra material beyond the finished line all the way around. That margin gives you room to sand the profile down to size and clean up any bumps left by the saw, which matters because MDF shapes and smooths very cleanly once you sand it.
3 Sand the deck to final shape
Work the sawn edges back to the marked outline with sandpaper. Anything from 60 to 120 grit works; 60 grit removes material quickly on the dense MDF while still leaving a shapeable edge. Blend the curves and knock down high spots until the profile is smooth and matches the template.
4 Test-fit and clear the factory stops and clips
Set the bare MDF deck into the hatch area and check how it seats. Note where the original shelf has raised stops and snap-in retainers; trim or notch the MDF so it clears those features and sits flat. If any of the factory catch pieces get in the way, remove them, since the stock snaps release very easily. Sand any remaining uneven spots so the panel lies level across the opening.
5 Wrap the deck in carpet
Brush the multi-purpose adhesive onto the MDF and lay the thin carpet over it, smoothing it down across the top face. Let the glue set before trimming; a few hours (roughly five to six) is enough, though leaving it a full day gives the strongest bond if you are not rushed. On the sides and around the tight curves, do not rely on glue alone, because it will not hold the carpet through the bends. Staple those edges down with the gun and 3/8" staples, then trim the excess once everything has cured.
6 Secure the finished deck
Decide how the deck should mount based on its job. For a removable, factory-style cover, keep the original clips so it lifts out like stock. If the deck will carry a subwoofer or speakers, lock it down instead by driving the 3" (or 3-1/2") screws with washers so the platform stays rigid and does not rattle under output. Because this puts the sub in a free-air arrangement using the trunk volume behind it, expect a space-saving install rather than reference sound quality.
7 Cut MDF adaptor rings for the front speakers
The front door openings are not a clean circle, so a genuine 6-1/2" driver will not drop straight into the sheet metal, and bolting a speaker to bare metal lets the whole door panel buzz when it is turned up. Solve both problems with a spacer ring cut from 3/4" MDF (a small 2x2 offcut is enough). Measure the opening precisely and jigsaw a ring that fills the odd shape and provides a solid, non-circular mounting face for the new speaker.
8 Mount the adaptor and speaker to the door
Fasten the MDF adaptor to the door using #8 3/4" sheet-metal screws. Do not substitute wood screws or flat-head screws for this; use metal screws only, since they bite and hold in the thin door structure where the others will strip or pull loose. Mount the speaker to the ring, confirm it clears the trim, and reassemble the door panel.
