Step-by-Step Instructions
1 Remove the interior light lens cover
Insert a small flat-blade screwdriver into one of the front corners of the dome light lens and gently pry the cover downward until it releases from the housing. Set the lens aside.
2 Detach the black light panel
Remove the two screws that retain the black panel behind the lens. Lower the panel and unplug its wiring connector so the panel is fully free and the wiring bundle is accessible.
3 Mount the Direct Wire adapter
Choose a clear spot on the back of the black panel where the adapter will not foul reassembly. Secure the Direct Wire adapter to that spot with an adhesive pad so it stays put during and after installation.
4 Identify and tap the constant 12V wire
In the disconnected wiring bundle, locate the light blue conductor, which supplies a constant 12V. The remaining wires either feed the dimmer circuit or do not carry 12V, so avoid them. Confirm with a multimeter if unsure. Be aware this light blue wire is always-on: it stays live even with the ignition switched off. Splice the red lead of the Direct Wire adapter to it. Trim the red wire to a convenient length, strip the insulation from both wires, twist them together, and insulate the joint. Then reconnect the wiring bundle to the black panel.
5 Route the RJ11 power cable
Grab the RJ11 straight power cable by either end, then pass it through the square opening in the housing so it can travel toward the detector location at the top of the windshield.
6 Connect the adapter and establish ground
Plug the free end of the RJ11 cable into the Direct Wire adapter. Pass the black ground wire through a hole so it emerges at the front, then fasten it under one of the panel screws to make a solid ground connection. Install the second panel screw to secure the black panel back in place.
7 Reassemble and power up
Snap the lens cover back onto the housing until it seats. Switch on the V1 and confirm it powers up and functions correctly before driving.
8 Dress the cable behind the mirror (optional)
For the cleanest finish, tuck and stick the exposed RJ11 cable to the black trim panel that covers the rain sensor, directly behind the rear-view mirror, so no wiring is visible.
