The K20A does not bolt to the factory B/D mounting points and requires a dedicated conversion mount kit. The kit provides a rear mount bracket that fastens to the subframe, a timing-chain-side mounting arrangement (small and large mounts) that reuses the passenger-side tow-hook location, and a driver-side transmission bracket. Supplied 1/2 inch spacers set the transmission bracket standoff on the rear crossmember side and take up the differing bolt-point heights on the driver-side bracket. The factory engine-harness plugs are pushed through the firewall and retained under the dash for later wiring rather than being cut. This entry covers Part 1 (mechanical fitment and mounting) only; wiring, cooling, and axle integration are separate phases.
The chassis must be cut to accept the K-series driveline. The factory transmission bracket is removed with a reciprocating saw or a 5 inch die grinder, and the condenser brackets on the lower subframe are also cut off. The radiator is relocated into the area the condenser brackets occupied. The engine itself is stripped of its power-steering pump, air-conditioning compressor, and unneeded factory brackets to clear the bay.

Important Caveats

  • Requires cutting structural-adjacent chassis brackets and relocating the radiator; verify local roadworthiness/engineering-certification requirements for engine conversions before road use.
  • On the driver-side transmission bracket, use both spacers only in the two holes closest together; the far hole bolts directly to the transmission with no spacer, or the mount will bind.
  • Leave all mounts finger-tight and cross-tighten only after full alignment to avoid preloading the driveline.
