Installation notes

Yes — the H22A engine and manual transmission from a 1993–1996 Honda Prelude VTEC (BB1) fits a 1994–1997 Honda Civic del Sol with an EG/DC2-type H-series mount kit, H-swap axles and the Prelude H22 post mount. Hasport's EGH3 kit is sold for F or H-series engines in the 92–95 Civic, 94–97 del Sol and 94–01 Integra. Innovative Mounts lists its H-series conversion kit under the 93–97 del Sol and requires Honda post mount 11910-P13-000 plus an Accord or Prelude rear T-bracket. Insane Shafts H22/H23 swap axles are listed for the del Sol.

Required modifications

Engine mounts: Hasport EGH3 (F or H-series engine into 92-95 Civic, 94-97 del Sol and 94-01 Integra; left, right and rear mounts plus right and rear brackets), or the Innovative Mounts EG/DC H-series conversion kit, which Innovative lists in its 93-97 del Sol category. Innovative says its kit needs the 92-01 Prelude H-series timing-belt post mount (Honda 11910-P13-000) and a rear T-bracket from a 90-93 Accord DX/LX or 92-96 Prelude. Axles: Insane Shafts H22/H23 swap axles are listed for EF/EG/EK Civic, DA/DC Integra and del Sol. Hasport's HP-EGH3AX set is listed for H-swaps in the 92-00 Civic and 94-01 Integra with EGH3 or EKH3 mounts (the del Sol isn't named on that page). Innovative's kit page adds that the right axle needs a Prelude/Accord inner CV joint to lock into the transmission. Also needs an H-series shifter setup and ECU/harness.

Caution

Important caveats

  • Hasport lists the EGH3 for the 94-97 del Sol, while Innovative's del Sol collection is labelled 93-97. Check fitment with the vendor before buying for a 1993 car.
  • The Innovative kit needs Honda post mount 11910-P13-000 and a separate rear T-bracket.
  • Hasport's HP-EGH3AX axles are rated for street use, not drag racing, and Hasport's page names the 92-00 Civic and 94-01 Integra rather than the del Sol.
  • The H22 is a much larger engine than the factory D or B-series; hood, radiator and front-pipe clearance should be checked before committing.
