Loosen all four wheels if you intend to lift the whole car, or only the side you will service if you have just two jack stands. Then remove the cap from the brake fluid reservoir so displaced fluid can vent while the pistons are retracted.

With the bleeder open, drive the piston straight back into its bore using a pry bar or wide flat-blade screwdriver; expect to push hard. Bleeding while you compress sends the old fluid out of the bleeder instead of forcing it back up through the ABS. Close the bleeder screw as soon as the piston is fully seated.

To change the disc, remove the two large 17mm caliper bracket bolts and hang the caliper from the suspension with wire so its hose carries no load. Back out the small retaining screw(s) set into the rotor face; a 2002-2003 disc uses two, and a seized screw can be freed with heat. Tap the rotor's hat, the central section the wheel seats against, with a rubber mallet to break it loose. Fit the new rotor and reinstall the two 17mm bolts.

Fit the replacement rotor and reinstall the 14mm bolts.

The notched pad is the inboard pad that bears against the piston, and its notch must drop into one of the slots on the piston face, or the pad will wear unevenly.
