Most Honda and Acura HomeLink consoles line up with the GE8's two forward mounting holes (nearest the windshield), so a straight HomeLink swap bolts up without roof clearance issues. The 2004-2008 Acura TSX unit is the reference donor; equivalent consoles come from the 2005-2008 Odyssey EX(L), 2003-2007 Accord EX with Nav/HomeLink, 2006-2008 Pilot EXL, and 2006-2008 Ridgeline RTL. Choose a grey or clear-grey unit to match the Fit interior. The donor module must include the Door/Off switch: a module without it (such as a 2006 Odyssey unit) will operate the lights and HomeLink but cannot auto-off the lights after the door closes, so a TSX-type module with the Door/Off switch is required for full function. A GE8 Sport with Navigation already has the overhead map-light wiring; a base car lacks it and needs an extra 12V tap (dome pink wire). Retaining the navigation mic requires transferring the Fit's mic block into the donor console.
No roof or headliner cutting is needed for a plain HomeLink-only swap, but the electrical side must be reworked. A short wiring harness has to be fabricated: two pins are extracted from the TSX map-light connector and transferred into the Fit's map-light connector (solid-green to pin 3, with pink retained on pin 1), and those transferred pins are soldered to pins 2 and 6 of the HomeLink connector for chassis and intermediate grounds. Three feed wires are added by hand: a 70-inch ambient LED pair tapped to a single lead at the power-mirror switch, a 26-inch door-switched ground tapped to the dome-light blue wire, and a 5-inch lead tapping the Fit's live 12V map-light wire. The navigation microphone is transferred from the Fit assembly into the donor console, with the Fit's purple and green mic leads spliced to the TSX pink and blue and the red (SW/MIC ADPT) lead left disconnected. The ambient LED housing generally needs trimming/adjustment because it aims too far rearward in the Fit. If the donor console retains its sunglass holder, additional bodywork is required: cutting the headliner, adding roughly 1.75-inch tapered spacers between headliner and roof, and fitting bolts about half an inch longer.

Important Caveats

  • • Pre-2004 donor consoles (1999-2003 Acura TL, 1998-2002 Honda Accord, 1999-2004 Honda Odyssey) have mounting holes about an inch wider than the GE8 base and will not bolt up without drilling and tapping new holes.
  • • A donor module lacking the Door/Off switch cannot automatically turn the interior lights off after the door closes.
  • • The 12V map-light pin is permanently live; a short during the pin transfer can blow a fuse.
  • • The HomeLink unit grounds through its mounting bolt, so it must be bolted to the roof before function can be verified.
  • • The ambient LED housing points too far rearward as installed and typically needs modification to aim correctly.
  • • Splicing the factory mic into an aftermarket head unit's mic cable is unreliable; relocating the aftermarket mic behind the console grille is a common workaround.
