Installation notes

Yes — a J-series V6 such as the J32A2 from a 2001-2003 Acura CL Type-S (YA4) can go into a 1988-1991 Honda Civic or CRX (EF) using Hasport's EFJ1 mount kit and HP-EFJAX axles, but it requires cutting, welding and a hood that clears the engine. Hasport is explicit that the J-series is a tall motor and will not fit under the stock EF hood. This is one of the most extreme Honda transplants: a roughly 3.2-litre V6 in a chassis designed for 1.5-1.6-litre four-cylinders. Treat it as a fabrication project rather than a bolt-in swap.

Required modifications

Swap mounts: Hasport EFJ1 J-series mount kit for 88-91 Civic and CRX; Hasport states cutting and welding are required. Axles: Hasport HP-EFJAX J-swap axle set for 88-91 Civic/CRX, built for the J-series automatic intermediate shaft (street use, not drag racing). Hood: Hasport states the engine will not fit under the stock hood, so a raised/vented hood or cut-out is required. Also needed: manual J-series transmission, engine harness and ECU solution, custom cooling, exhaust and accessory clearance work.

Caution

Important caveats

  • Hasport states the J-series will not fit under the stock 88-91 Civic/CRX hood.
  • Cutting and welding are required to install the EFJ1 kit.
  • Hasport's EF J-swap axles are rated for street use, not drag racing, and assume the J-series automatic intermediate shaft.
  • Sources here are vendor pages from one company (Hasport); no independent build write-up was verified for this entry.
