Step-by-Step Instructions
1 Prepare a padded prying tool
Wrap a cloth or piece of tape around the tip of a small flathead screwdriver so the metal never contacts the painted bumper or the lens. A small allen wrench works as well. The padding is the difference between a clean job and a scratch, because the tool has to slip into a tight gap right next to the paint.
2 Locate the lens seam
Find the two license plate lamps above the plate and get square in front of one of them with good light. Ignore any search advice telling you to look for a slot in the lens itself; there is no slot. The only working access point is the thin seam between the clear lens and the black plastic lamp frame surrounding it.
3 Pry the lens cover free
Insert the padded tip into the seam between the lens and the black frame, then apply gentle leverage toward the lens until it releases. A wedge tab on each side of the lens holds it in the frame, so it lets go suddenly and can pop out with some force; keep a hand ready to catch it so it does not fall or fly.
4 Remove the old bulb
With the lens off, the bulb sits exposed in its socket. These are wedge-base bulbs, meaning the glass base is simply pressed into the contacts with no twist or clip. Grip it with two fingers and pull straight out with steady pressure. Handle it gently, since squeezing too hard can shatter the thin glass.
5 Install the LED bulb
Push the replacement T10 LED straight into the socket the same way the original sat. It seats only so far before it stops, which tells you it is fully home. Do not force it past that point.
6 Confirm polarity before closing up
LEDs are polarity sensitive and will only light when inserted the correct way, and a wedge base can go in either orientation. Before refitting the lens, switch on the parking lights and confirm the bulb illuminates. If it stays dark, pull the bulb, rotate it 180 degrees, and reseat it.
7 Refit the lens cover
Line the lens up with its opening; it keys in only one way. Press it in until the wedge tabs snap back into the frame and the surface sits flush. Repeat the entire procedure on the second lamp.
