A dealer-programmed TSX remote will not work on the Accord because the TSX remote uses a different FCC ID; the dealer can only program the immobilizer to allow engine starting, leaving the remote buttons non-functional. This is why the Accord's own remote board is transplanted into the TSX housing rather than swapping electronics. The immobilizer chip may not sit on the circuit board at all - on valet and TL keys members found it embedded in the blade or rotating section, so it must be located and relocated deliberately.
The TSX switchblade shell is not used with its own electronics. Instead, the Accord's remote board components - the lock, unlock and trunk tactile switches, plus an optional status LED - are desoldered from the Accord fob, fitted with fly leads, insulated, and relocated inside the TSX board layout, then re-soldered to their original pads. The trunk-button opening is cut into the TSX white inner cover. A section of the TSX inner plastic enclosure must be shaved away because the rebuilt board stack is too thick to close. Finally the immobilizer transponder is moved from the original Honda key into the switchblade so the key will start the engine.

Important Caveats

  • • Low success rate as documented: the original builder could not reliably start the car or operate the panic button after assembly.
  • • Panic button frequently fails once the fob halves are clamped, likely from a pressure short.
  • • Rebuilt board stack is too thick; housing will not close or align unless the TSX inner enclosure is thinned.
  • • Removing the immobilizer retaining screw can strip it and require drilling it out.
  • • Fine-pitch desoldering can break the tactile switch legs; attempt only on a spare key.
