B-series AWD manual transmission and rear driveline (AWD conversion)
into Civic EK (from CR-V)
Yes: the B-series AWD manual transmission and rear driveline (AWD conversion) from the CR-V (1997-2001) fits the Civic EK (1996-2000) — difficult difficulty, modifications required.
Installation notes
Required modifications
Engine/transmission mounts: Hasport EKBAWD (B-series engine with 2-bolt or 3-bolt left-hand mount and AWD manual transmission in the 96-00 Civic; replaces left, right and rear mounts). Rear differential: Innovative Mounts AWD rear diff mount kit 103460 for the 1996-2000 Civic, designed for the 88-91 Wagon or Element/CR-V rear differential; requires notching the rear subframe and rivnuts. Axles: Driveshaft Shop AWD B-series conversion axles (510077) are rear axles, listed for 88-00 Civic, built for the 88-91 Wagon/Shuttle 25-spline rear differential. Front axles are not covered by the listed sources. Also needs a driveshaft, viscous coupler mounting (Innovative 103370 brackets bolt to the exhaust tunnel) and rear hubs that suit the axles.
Important caveats
- This is a full AWD conversion: the rear subframe has to be notched and the rear differential, driveshaft and viscous coupler need mounting points, not just engine mounts.
- Innovative's rear differential kit uses rivnuts (13.5mm or 17/32 in drill) and recommends welding the brackets for high-power use.
- Driveshaft Shop's conversion axles are built for the 88-91 Civic Wagon/Shuttle 25-spline rear differential with 23-spline outers and hubs; other setups need custom axles.
- Fuel tank, exhaust, parking brake and rear suspension packaging are not covered by any single kit listed here.
- Pick the EKBAWD left-hand mount option (2-bolt or 3-bolt) that matches your engine.
